Abducted Ekiti pupils: Body of killed school bus driver recovered

The body of Taiwo Olugbaye, who was killed in January by kidnappers in Emure-Ekiti, Emure Local Government Area of Ekiti state, has been discovered.

The Nigerian Tribune had reported that the gunmen who kidnapped the schoolchildren and their teachers of the Apostolic Group of Schools Emure-Ekiti on January 29, 2924, killed the driver of the school bus a few days after the abduction.

While the nine victims were released after reported payment of ransom, security agencies have been combing the forest for the corpse of the driver killed by the gunmen, as revealed by the victims.

It was gathered that a local farmer discovered the corpse in a forest in Eporo-Ekiti, where he raised an alarm to the security agencies.

The daughter of the deceased was subsequently invited and was able to identify him with his clothes, underwear, and a ring on his father’s left hand.

Responding to the development, Tosin Olugbaye, the daughter of the late driver, said the discovery of her father’s body has given the children and the entire family an opportunity for proper burial arrangements for their father.

While reacting to the death of her father, Tosin Olugbaye, who happens to be the first daughter, said she is grateful to the state government and the security agencies for their efforts towards the discovery of her father’s body.

“When I saw the corpse, I realized there is nothing in this life, everything is vanity upon vanity. “When the chairman told me about the discovery of my dad’s body, it came as a shock to me,” she said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the discovery, added that it was a farmer who raised the alarm.

Abutu said, “I am urging citizens to be vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and share credible information that will help the police get rid of insecurity in the state and the country at large.”
