ABC, Bovas breast, cervical screening exercise continues in Oyo

ABC Medicals in collaboration with Bovas Charitable Foundation, continued the cervical and breast screening programme in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The programme which aims to screen 2000 women in 11 local governments including Oluyole, Ibadan North, Lanlate,  Iseyin and other populated regions in Oyo State to inform them about the cervical and breast cancer and treat those infected, is the vision of wife of former governor of Oyo State, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, whom Bovas foundation partnered with to make a reality.

The resident nurses of Oluyole, and Egbeda local government areas, Mrs Bakare Adejoke and Mrs Abiodun Julaina who spoke to Nigerian Tribune, said they were impressed at the turnout of women in their regions.

Mrs Adejoke who was in charge of the screening activity that was held at ABC Clinic situated at New Garage, Ibadan, said they had discovered in the course of the exercise many women with lumps in their breasts who would be rechecked and treated or taken to surgery free of charge.

She said: “We do a lot of treatments here, but this month is particularly for the breast and cervical cases. Those who have the traces of these ailments,  we ask them to come back to our head office for further treatment.”

Also, the representative of Egbeda Local Government Area said at the screening exercise at ABC Clinic, Gbagi, that the publicity the women did among themselves increased the number from about 75 they had in the early hours of the morning to 159  women at the close of day.

“I am personally impressed at the screening number. We have seen breast lumps of different sizes and full blown cancer here, and we have started the treatment processes for infected women for free.

“Bovas has really helped the under privileged to take care of their health.

“These women helped us to call out other women for the screening, and it has been encouraging,” Mrs Abiodun said.

The logistics head and one of the doctors at ABC Medicals, Dr Olusola Oriniowo reported that 923  patients were screened through 6 clinics and 27 women were found to have had breast lesions and 25 others with cervical lesions. Dr Sola said 400 other patients  at Oluyole and Ibadan local government would be screened and he believes the 2000 screening target would be reached.
