A newborn baby girl was discovered abandoned on the streets of Yar Akwa, Naibawa, in the Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano.
A group of men at a nearby tea shop heard the baby’s cries and immediately sprang into action.
“Initially, we thought it was a cat, but upon investigating, we saw two security guards with the baby,” an eyewitness identified as Shamsuddeen Sabiu said.
The Ward Head of Yar Akwa, Jamilu Abba Danladi, confirmed receiving the baby and expressed relief that she was alive and healthy. The community has since come together to support the ward head in caring for the infant.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the abandonment and are working to locate the mother to understand her reasons.
Anyone with information about the baby’s mother is urged to come forward to help ensure the child receives proper care and support.
“This is a heartbreaking situation, but we’re grateful the baby was found alive,” said Danladi. “We appeal to the public to provide any information that can help us locate the mother.”
