Ambrose Alli University
As part of the activities marking its 40th anniversary, the Edo State-owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, on Thursday, honoured the business mogul and oil manganate, Leemon Ikpea, politician and philanthropist, Kenneth Imasuangbon, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndidi Elumelu, among several other personalities.
Ikpea, who was represented by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the All Progressive Congress (APC), governorship candidate in the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state, enthused that the award was a clarion call on him to continue to delight humanity.
Ikpea reiterated that his ultimate vision for a viable Nigeria remained resolute with institutions like Tue AAU producing the required manpower.
The business icon was honoured alongside Elder Pius Omofuma, the founder of the GT Plaza, a chain of eatery channels spread across Edo State.
In his remarks, while receiving his own award, Imansuagbon is popularly known as the ‘Rice Man’, a gesture of his humanitarian philanthropy at making the staple food rice, available free of charge to Tue Edo people across all the political shades said he was motivated by the life of selfless service the founder of the university, Professor Ambrose Folorunsho Alli, lived.
According to Imansuagbon, the late professor of morbid anatomy and former governor of the defunct Bendel State, Alli, “never built empires for himself but look what has become of his name today. What are we in this generation going to live for our children? I dedicate this award to his memory.”
In a Goodwill message, Olumelu who is an alumnus of the university said the Industry of the management and staff of the School had made them excel in their various field.
On his part, Elder Omofuma said one of the reasons that made him return home to start his business in Ekpoma in 1989 was because AAU had opened up the community.
In his address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Benson Osadolor, said that the award and induction into the school’s hall of fame were to celebrate persons, who in several ways, had impacted in the development of the university.
The Visitor to the university, Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who was represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Governor,’s Office, Jimoh Ijegbai, said that his plan ” is to make AAU one of the top five universities in the world.”
