He said this while delivering his inaugural lecture titled “Bugs and Man at War: Third Eye to the Rescue”, which was the 436th in the university’s inaugural lecture series and 40th in his faculty.
According to him, malaria is endemic in 50 countries in sub-Sahara Africa with children under five years and pregnant women at greater risk of dying from the diseases.

“In Nigeria, malaria is transmitted all year round with peak transmission during the rainy season months of May and October,” he said.“The symptoms of malaria typically develop within 10 days to four weeks following the infection,” he added.
On malaria treatment, he said the problem with malariacontrol includes widespread drug resistance to common anti malarials, resistance to newer drugs and resistance of mosquitoes to insecticides.
He recommended early diagnosis and prompt treatment of the disease, and early detection and prevention of its epidemic.
He also recommended that mass health education about the disease and its control should be intensified. “Treatment ofmalaria should be free in government hospitals,” he said.
