Ekiti State Book of Facts is a 311-page educative material written by a legal practitioner and law lecturer at the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Anthony S. Aladekomo, and was published in 2019. The book is a full manual on Ekiti State, which shows graphically, its history, polity, economy, education, socio-cultural life, tourism, who-is-who and any information one wants to know about the state.
The author, years back, published the Lagos Book of Facts and the Kogi Handbook, which garnered applause from people across various sectors of human endeavour.
Aladekomo, in this recent effort focused on five self-imposed goals as a Nigerian; he wants to help enhance the power, prestige and good name of Nigeria while defending the nation by rendering national service through positive and useful contributions to the advancement, progress and well-being of the state as an indigene.
Also, he engaged in the exercise to provide a community development project to spur the advancement of Ekiti state economically, socially and politically and to showcase the fact that Ekiti State is reputed to be Nigeria’s Land of Knowledge.
Ekiti State Book of Facts consists of 17 chapters which presents some historical and geographical facts about Nigeria; location, area, topography, vegetation, population, ethnicity, languages and geo-political zones to give readers a fundamental knowledge of the country called Nigeria.
Earlier chapters are based on the geographical features and history of Ekiti, including the Ekiti Parapo War, basic current facts about modern Ekiti State that dwells on every information needed to be known on Ekiti, including the creation of the state, population, state anthem, logo, local government areas and the official contacts of the state government.
Chapter four and five respectively discuss the political administrations in Ekiti State since its creation and its governance while chapter six and seven examine the local government system and the economy of the state to include places of tourists’ attractions, transportation, media and communication facilities in Ekiti.
The book further delves into the traditional kingship institution and the different types of religion practiced by the people of the state. The different types of educational institutions, which are private, state and federal, and the various government and non-governmental institutions as well as a showcase of important personalities of Ekiti in all spheres of life especially those who have achieved great feats in their chosen life endeavours.
The last two chapters sum up the major challenges facing the state and proffer solutions to the challenges. The book is an illuminating publication which offers insightful knowledge on the various aspects of life of the state and is a valuable resource for those engaged in learning and research.
It also serves as a guide to upcoming generations on the history of their forefathers and preserving Ekiti history and information. It is indeed a must-read for all Ekiti indigenes at home and in the Diaspora and a learning aid to students.
