9th NASS Speakership race: Don’t be intimated.. Bago tells Reps-Elect

A contender to the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 9th National Assembly , Hon Mohammed Umar Bago on Wednesday counseled the newly elected members not to be intimated about how the business of the House that would lead to the emergence of the new Speaker would emerge

Speaking with news men in Abuja yesterday, Hon Bago disclosed that the House of Representatives has rules and that as a tradition such rules would be followed to the letter in the elections of the principal officers in the next dispensation.

Hon Bago advised them not to worry about trivial issues such as whether to adopt open or secret balloting during the selection process when the rule was already known as spelt out in the standing rules of the House.

“Our new elected Colleagues should not be intimated about trivial issues, both the returning and the new members, 360 of us will gather together in the hallowed Chamber to elect one among us as our speaker, in line with our standing rules.”

“This has been the tradition and for some faceless people to now be hiding under whatever guise to be canvassing for the type of voting system to be used, that’s shows their level of desperation.”

Hon Bago who refuted the speculations making the round that he had stepped down from the race declared that he was still very much in the race and that he was in the race to win.

He made it cleared that his being in the race was not a matter of do or die affair but his desire to redress the injustice to the North- Central zone which had not occupy the office of speaker since the inception of the new political dispensation 20 years despite its enormous contributions to the electoral victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the election of the Mr President in the just concluded general elections.

Speaking on his level of loyalty to President Muhammodu Buhari and the Party, Bago declared that his records were available to speak for him at any level since the era ” The Buhari Organization” till now while his academic and Parliamentary experiences stood him out from others.

Hon Bago assured that he was more that prepared for the task ahead in moving the nation to the next level in line with the electoral promises made to the nation by President Buhari and the APC respectively.
