Assault on driver: Thank God he didn’t apologize in Police station, Lagos PPRO reacts

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ben Hundeyin, has responded to the recent apology by e-hailing driver Stephen Abuwatseya to Abia lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh.

The lawmaker had allegedly assaulted Abuwatseya following a disagreement during a package delivery.

Reacting on his official X account on Friday, November 8, Hundeyin expressed relief that Abuwatseya did not offer his apology while at the police station or before the case was transferred to court.

“Thank God he did not apologize in the police station or before the case went to court. We for hear am. 😏” he wrote.

This statement came after Abuwatseya released a video on Thursday where he apologized to Ikwechegh, saying, “Good day, Nigerians. My name is Stephen Abuwatseya. I had a misunderstanding with Rt. Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh a few days ago.

“I actually want to apologize to him for whatever I must have said or done to provoke him to that level of anger.”

Abuwatseya went on to urge Nigerians to foster unity over division, adding, “It’s not time for us to start dividing ourselves based on religion, tribes, or regions.

“We should come together to see how we can unite this nation and move it forward.”

He ended his message by thanking his family, friends, and supporters for standing by him, saying, “I love you all. God bless Nigeria.”
