958 children undergoing treatment over acute malnutrition in Nasarawa

THE Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NSPHCDA) has said that out of 3595 under 5years children with cases of severe acute malnutrition, enrolled into Outpatients Therapeutic Program (OTP), 958 are currently receiving treatment in the state.

Executive Chairman of the Agency, Dr. Mohammad Adis, revealed this on Thursday to Pressmen in Lafia, said the Community Management Acute Malnutrition (CMAM)  program, partnering UNICEF and NAPHDA since 2018, “has cured 2637 children while others are currently undergoing treatment.”

According to him, the project rolled in three senatorial zones of the state- Akwanga, Keffi and Lafia Local Government Areas, was aimed at managing children with acute malnutrition and its related with the of eradicating such cases in the state.

Dr. Adis said that the children were undergoing treatment, using ‘Ready to Use Therapeutic Food’ (RUTF) supplements that were provided by their partners.

“The agency has already completed the payment of the 2018 counter funds to UNICEF and 800 cartoons of Ready to use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) supplements were supplied in December 2018 and is to expire on March 2020,” he stated.

He added that the programme had yielded tremendous results without any case of death children in their record since inception.
