90 per cent of governorship aspirants in Delta have backed out ― Gbagi

Ninety per cent of governorship aspirants coveting the exalted position ahead of 2023 general elections in Delta State has withdrawn their interest.

This is the submission of a leading governorship aspirant in Delta State and former Minister of Education, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, during a meeting of the Ughievwen Political Unity Forum at Oginibo in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

The criminologist said that most of the aspirants might still be seen doing some consultations, but argued that they had already thrown in the towel when the actual bout has yet to commence.

Gbagi, an industrialist, said from all indications, the next governor of the state would emerge from his Oginibo country home, adding that the God that created him out of the Ughievwen Kingdom did not make mistakes.

The former Minister, who reeled out his achievements to include scholarships to sons and daughters of the Ughievwen people, attracting schools to the community and building structures, said he was ever ready to continue to do his best for the Ughievwen people at all times.

“The next Delta State Governor, by His grace, would come from Oginibo in the Ughievwen Kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area.

“So, I urge you all to work hard for it to come to reality. Talk to people in and outside the local government area and let them know the reason why it should come to us,” he added.

He opined that the governorship position was meant for those who are viable, unblemished and ready to serve.

“I am pleading for your prayers to succeed because 90% of those who indicated interest to contest Delta Governorship have dropped out of the race, but maybe doing consultations to avoid shame,” he retorted.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Ughievwen Political Unity Forum, Olorogun Edwin Obofukoro, during the visit, said that the meeting was called to sensitise the people of the happenings in the polity.

He urged the people of Ughievwen to embrace the ongoing INEC voters’ card registration exercise meant for those who had attained 18 years and those who had issues with their cards.

He advised the Ughievwen people to reinvigorate the love and unity that helped the Late Chief James Mrakpor emerged as Chairman of the defunct Ughelli Local Government Area for the 2023 governorship election.
