An eighty-year-old man, Isiaka Ayinde, committed suicide on Friday in Lagos State, a matter now under police investigation in the state.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident to the Saturday Tribune.

The death of the elderly man reportedly caused significant confusion among residents of the Lagos community.

The police spokesperson noted that although the family of the deceased had requested his immediate burial due to his age and religious beliefs, the police would proceed to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Lagos police spokesperson stated, “Today, at about 00:26 hours, one Mustapha made a report at Imota Division that at about 19:30 hours on 07/03/2024, while at his house located at Watvhtower Street, Araromi, Imira, he heard his children shouting for him to come and see baba in the kitchen.

“When he ran into the kitchen, he saw the lifeless body of one of his tenants named Isiaka Ayinde, aged 80, hanging on a rope tied to the burglary proof of one of the windows in the kitchen.”

The police spokesperson further added, “The scene has been visited by DCB personnel of the division, and photographs were taken. However, the family of the deceased is not interested in depositing the body at the mortuary but rather wishes to bury the corpse immediately due to the age and religious inclination of the deceased old man.”
