8 dead, 17 injured in Niger auto crash

THE Niger State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of eight persons in an auto crash that occurred on the Kagara-Birnin Gwari Road in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

The state FRSC sector commander, Mr Joel Dagwa, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Minna.

Dagwa said that the incident occurred on Tuesday and that it involved a trailer without registration number and loaded with 46 people, 37 cows and 10 goats.

The FRSC commander said eight persons died in the accident, while 17 persons sustained various degrees of injury.

He said those injured had been taken to the Cottage Hospital in Kagara for treatment.

Dagwa said: “We have also deposited the bodies of those who died at the hospital.”

He blamed the incident on fatigue and overloading.
