Dozens of students’ West African Examination Council and millions of naira worth of properties destroyed as thirty two flats were razed in a fire incident that occurred at Satellite Town in Lagos between Saturday and Sunday morning.
One person was seriously injured in the Satellite Town incident, while an eight day old baby was consumed in another fire incident that occurred in Makoko area of the state.
The fire occurred at the popular former Stepping Stones Comprehensive Girls College,which has been converted to residential building .
It was gathered that the fire started from one of the converted flats late on Saturday evening and raged till around 1’O clock on Sunday.
Fire fighters had a very difficult time in battling with the fire as it was said to be very well alive ,when the safety workers arrived at the burning building .
Though yet to be fully ascertained, the fire was said to have started from a spark as a result of power surge, which affected the electrical wiring of the building.
Residents of the building battled to put out the fire in vain and it grew uncontrolled for hours, prompting them to call fire fighters.
Fire fighters could not access the major point of the fire for more than forty five minutes as a result of what was described as the “nature of the building.”
The fire grew wilder as eleven gas cylinders and seven air condition compressors exploded as the fire spread from one apartment to the other.
A woman, who jumped from one of the floors of the building was injured.
The only unoccupied flat, where WAEC results of former students of the converted school were stored was also burnt in the inferno.

Farinloye confirmed that A fire outbreak at former Stepping stone Comprehensive Girls College, 9/11 Stepping Stone Close, Satellite Town, Lagos converted to thirty residential apartments occurred late on Saturday.”
He also added that “A woman was injured while excellent WAEC Results of many former students were burnt while many were partly affected.”
“Also, eleven gas cylinders were involved in with seven air conditioners” the NEMA spokesperson added .
NEMA Zonal Coordinator, Alhaji Suleiman, while speaking on the incident, advised the owner of the complex to gather all the mutilated certificates with police report and report the incident to WASCE for Issuance of Certified True Copies of the affected certificates.
In another incident, an eight day-old baby was on Saturday burnt to death as fire ravaged some shanties in the Makoko area of the State.
A report had it that the Makoko fire started from a domestic cooking from one of the resident.
Farinloye, while confirming the Makoko incident, said that about twenty families have been rendered homeless ad a result of the katr Saturday fire.
