723 parcels of cannabis, contraband items worth N32m seized by Kebbi Customs

Kebbi State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs on Thursday handed over contraband items with street value put at N32 million and 723 parcels of cannabis sized by the Command to the National Drugs and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Birnin-Kebbi, the state capital.

In a statement signed and made available to the Tribune Online, the Public Relation Officer of the Command, Nasiru Manga, stated that the seizure was made within three weeks.

Manga explained that the seized items were handed over to the NDLEA in line with inter-agency collaborations between Customs and the NDLEA.

The statement stressed that the 723 parcels of 1kg each of cannabis sativa which street value stood at N28.9 million were seized by the gallant officers and men of the Command along Kamba/Bunza highways based on credible intelligence.

While reeling out the achievements of the Area Controller of Customs, Mr Joseph Attah’s within three weeks of his assumption of Office, the statement enumerated that the renewed onslaught against smugglers in the state has started yielding positive results.

“In addition to the 723 parcels of cannabis, we also seized 8,850 liters of petrol, 16 bales of second hand clothing and other items with street value put at N32.56 million,” the statement said.

The area controller while reiterating his command’s stand on zero-tolerance for smuggling of fuel and foreign rice allayed the fears of rice farmers in the state, pointing out that his command was ready to support them to see that modalities are put in place to ensure that activities of smugglers do not affect their productions.

In his responds, the NDLEA Commander, Mr. Peter Oduadu, appreciated the Kebbi Area Command of Customers for the synergy to rid the state of drugs trafficking, assuring that his command would dispose off the case in accordance with the law.
