7 fruits you can cultivate in your backyard

What’s the desire to live healthy in the absence of fruits? However, you can beat the uncertainty of buying fresh fruits by cultivating them in your backyard.

The best part? You can vouch for the quality of your fruit intake because it has been cultivated under your supervision. The process of having an orchard in your home is not as complex as you think. It’s easy and rewarding.

Let’s see the kind of fruits you can grow in your home.

1. Mango

Mangoes contain vitamins C and A, but the best part is that they also give you clear skin and an excellent immune system. If you’re considering growing mangoes in your backyard, you should know that they take about 3-5 years to germinate.

2. Pawpaw

In Nigeria, it’s rare to see a home committed to home farming without a pawpaw tree growing in their compound or backyard. Like Mango, this contains Vitamins C and A. It also has vitamin E.

It takes between 6 months to 1 year to start bearing fruits.

3. Pineapple

Growing pineapples in your backyard adds more beauty to your environment because they are an aesthetically pleasing fruit. Their crowns are a beautiful sight to behold. It takes about 16 to 24 months for them to germinate.

4. Bananas

Lovers of bananas, it’s your turn. If you want to plant bananas in your backyard, you can always use suckers from an existing plant to achieve this. It’s also important to note that when you plant them, it takes about 9 – 12 months to germinate.

5. Guava

This particular fruit takes about 2 to 8 weeks to germinate when planted. When you plant it in your backyard, ensure that they are exposed to light whether you planted it as seeds or from cuttings.

6. Lemons

Is there a household in Nigeria that doesn’t have lemons or lime in their home? I may have yet to travel far enough. But this fruit has many benefits, like aiding a robust immune system and enabling healthy skin, to mention a few. They are also rich in Vitamin C.

7. Avocado

Avocado is popularly known as pear, in case that sounds strange. If you have an undying love for avocado, you might have to wait about 3 to 4 years till it germinates, especially if you want to take your passion for it a notch higher by planting it in your backyard

Remember, this is about your backyard. You can trim the leaves from time to time to avoid wild growth. Also, remember to take care of your plants, water them appropriately, and trim them where necessary.
