6,409 candidates apply for 200 police jobs in Niger

Published by

No fewer than about  6,409 applicants  have been recorded in  Niger State Command of the Nigeria Police Force to have applied  for recruitment into the force in the ongoing nationwide screening exercise to determine qualified candidates that  are physically,  academically and psychologically  fit for  recruitment into the force.

Out of the huge number, about 4,000 applicants were said to have been screened between last Monday and Thursday, while an additional 1,000 applicants have been reportedly screened by some of the officials dispatched to the state’s Police Command from the Police Service Commission, the Bureau of Federal Character and the personnel of Police Medicals among others, while the remaining applicants were yet to be screened.

Indication to this effect emerged on Friday during an on-the-spot assessment of the screening exercise by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Alhaji Shuaibu Lawal Gambo, at the Police Officers Mess, Minna, venue of the screening exercise, while he was being briefed on the outcome of the screening exercise so far in the state.

Also in an interaction with the newsmen,  DIG Gambo, who was in charge of the North Central geo- political zone of the country for the recruitment exercise, said the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has dispatched all the DIGs to the six geo- political zones of the country to monitor the screening and recruitment exercise with a view to ensure that a thorough, meticulous  and clinical screening of the candidates for recruitment into the force were done without leaving anything to chances.

“ I have been to some other commands from this zone which included Kogi State and the purpose of the visit is to go round to see what the Commissioners of Police and the Assistant Inspectors Generals of Police are doing concerning the recruitment. We are to ensure that the measures that we have put in place are strictly adhered to so that at the end of the exercise we get the best candidates that each state has to give us.

“Also, we have noted that the former recruitments were fraught with complaints because many states complained that we recruited people that were not from their states, while some people said we recruited people who were not qualified.  But this time around, we have put measures in place to make sure that these issues were taken care of to make sure that the screening exercise is very hectic, so that only the best is successful and recruited into the force.

“You have about four or five stages that you have to go through which is to ensure that we select the best. First of all, you will start from the physical, you will remove all your dress and we will check you out. From there you will go to another point where you are going to present your credentials, from there you will go to where you will do your biometrics; you will also go for documentation; the medical personnel’s will check your mental fitness too so that all these conform to our standards”, said the DIG.

He told the applicants that the aforementioned measures were just the first stage in the screening for the recruitment into the Nigeria Police, adding that after the candidates must have gone for the examinations and passed, they would still be screened again to ensure that the best were recruited.
