Dear Makeover,
SUNDAY is Father’s Day and I would like to get my father a gift. I’m a little confused about what to get him and I want my gift to mean something, especially because he’s been such a wonderful father to me. I would prefer something stylish because I know that is what he would like. Any suggestions?
Confused daughter
As the world celebrates fathers today, it would be a perfect opportunity to gift the surprise of something stylish to a father figure. It is sometimes assumed that men do not really need stylish items, but that is not true. As long as the father figure in your life wears a shirt, combs his hair, has a grooming routine, uses perfume, or even just checks the mirror, however briefly, he deserves something stylish this Father’s Day. Below are 10 suggestions to work with:
Sunglasses
Whatever the age of the father figure, sunglasses are a sure-fire way to get your Dad to looking stylish. However, before you get him sunglasses, ensure you have an idea of the shape of his face so you would get the right fit. Even if he uses recommended glasses, you could get custom-made sunglasses for him.
Perfume
Who doesn’t like to smell nice? Getting perfume for fathers can be a little tricky,
especially as while some prefer them bold, others prefer the mild touch. So, to avoid the risk of making him give out the gift to someone else, know his preferences before purchase.
Shirt
Nearly every father figure does well with shirts. Some options you can choose from include: T-shirts, collar shirts, sweat shirts, checked shirts, flannel shirts, among others. Key points to note when choosing a shirt for a father figure include fabric, fit, collar type, design and pattern.
Jacket
Jackets are easier to work with than a complete suit, when it comes to choosing gift items for fathers. To play safe and ensure that your gift is well appreciated, go for popular colours that can be easily paired, such as black, navy blue, grey or if you dare, white. If you are absolutely sure the father is one who rocks such colours, go ahead and get creative by going for bolder colours. For bold colours, red, blue and wine also work well for men. Better still, go the Ankara way – he will really appreciate and the gift will stand out in his wardrobe and his heart for a long time to come.
Wristwatch
Wristwatches, for many men, perform beyond the function of telling time, even if it may not seem so. It is no wonder men who have an idea of class invest in the quality of what they sport on their wrists. So, if you want to buy a wristwatch for a father figure in your life, it would be best to know his taste before purchase. Three main points to note are: first and most important, determine if he is a leather or chain person; second, know his preferred colour, and thirdly, understand his sense of design.
Something traditional
This, according to many men, is the best option to go for. Many fathers feel very comfortable in traditional-inspired outfits and as a result of the advantage that men’s physique offers in terms of fitting, it is easier to take a guess and get the fitting just right. Take advantage of the many fabrics available and get creative.
P.S. There are a range of other items to choose from such as ties, socks and even shoes. While a father figure might appreciate shoes, it may be hard to get his size and design, unless he is one who uses only a particular design. The important thing is the heart behind the gift. Men don’t get gifts very often and this Father’s Day may just be the perfect opportunity to make him feel special.
