58th Independence: Oyo to celebrate with march past, donation to less privileged

THE Oyo State Government will on Monday morning commemorate Nigeria’s 58th Independence anniversary with a March Past at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan for pupils and students in both public and private schools in the State.

The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Abayomi Oke made this known at the weekend, adding that the Military and Para-Military agencies, as well as voluntary organizations, such as Boys Scouts, Girls Guild, Man O War, Red Cross amongst others, are expected to participate in the March Past and the Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi will declare the ceremony open by10 am and take the March Past salute.

Mr. Oke stated that the theme of this year’s celebration is “Enhancing our Diversity for National Development”, enjoining the principals and head teachers of public and private schools in the state to mobilise their students and pupils to participate actively in all the lined up events including cultural display, novelty match, cycling and other side attractions.

According to him, the wife of the Governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi will also as part of the celebration, visit homes within Ibadan metropolis to donate food items, daily needs and financial donation to take care of the basic needs of the less privileged homes.

Oke urged the Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Permanent Secretaries and Directors as well as the general public to attend this National event to mark the anniversary of Nigeria’s independence.

He assured of the safety of the children and the public at large during this ceremony, stressing that adequate security has been provided to secure lives and property at the stadium.
