5 dead in Anambra auto-crash

Five people, three males and two females, have lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occurred at the Onitsha-Ogidi-Abatete old road by Eke-Agu market in Anambra State.

The accident happened on August 12, 2023, at about 16:25 hrs.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the accident involved a Siena with reg number NZM 814 ZL belonging to Onitsha South transport company.

It was gathered that the Sienna somersaulted three times when the driver tried to navigate a bend while at speed.

Margaret B. Onabe, acting sector public education officer, FRSC, Anambra State Command, confirmed the accident.

According to the PRO, “Six people comprising four male adults and two female adults were involved in the crash. One male was injured while the rest died.

“The FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje arrived at the scene and was briefed by some persons around the neighbourhood that the crash occurred yesterday evening and was cleared by police personnel from Ogidi police Station.

“Information from the station officer at Ogidi Police Station revealed that the crash actually happened yesterday and that six persons were involved of which the driver is the only survivor.

“Three of the dead bodies were deposited at Ahufus Hospital and Mortuary, Abatete, while the other two were deposited at Iyi-Enu General Hospital, Ogidi.”
