Widows, orphans of soldiers in Niger receive succour from NAOWA

Published by

Some 25 widows and other bereaved families of some soldiers who died while defending the territorial integrity of the country may now heave a sigh of relief, following the donation of some food items, clothing materials and unspecified sums of money by the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) at the Military Cantonment, in Minna, Niger State, capital on Monday.

The donations were made by the association, led by its chairperson, and wife of the outgoing Acting Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Nigerian Army, Mrs Apollonia Ezugwu shortly after returning from a humanitarian outreach programme to Marvelous Orphanage Home at Birji Village on the outskirts of Minna, on Monday.

Ezugwu, in her remarks at the occasion, said the humanitarian outreach of NAOWA, Minna Military Cantonment chapter, was part of the activities to mark the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2021.

She stated further that one of the objectives of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association was “service to humanity,” adding that “it is in line with this that the association provides succour to the poor and the needy in our barrack community and the society at large.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the widows and families of our fallen heroes, may their souls continue to rest in peace,” Ezugwu said.

She admonished the widows and families of the fallen soldiers to know that NAOWA was with them all the way, assuring that their happiness and well-being were of utmost importance to the association.
