A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect shot Asimiyu who had accused him of snatching the woman from him.

Akinrinmola claimed that the deceased had been threatening him over the woman he was dating.

He told the police that the deceased warned him to leave the woman, saying that trouble started when the deceased met him and the unidentified woman while returning from farm.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said further that a distress call was made to the police station at Ijebu Igbo, after the incident, and that the Divisional Police Officer, Agene James, led detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested and a dane gun recovered.

He said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.

He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered that the suspect be transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
