Mr Angus Ibezim, the Sector Commander in the state, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

Ibezim said the exercise was carried out by the command in collaboration with the state chapter of the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA).

Ibezim said that while 18 persons were certified well, 24 others had issues with their vision and were advised to see a physician.

The commander said that the exercise was designed to ensure that the visual health of drivers was good to guarantee safety on our roads.

According to him, studies have shown that 80 per cent of the information needed for safe driving came from good sight.

He said that the drivers with good vision were encouraged to maintain good visual health by ensuring periodic eye checkup.

The state Chairman of NOA, Dr Isah Iwuanyanwu, a Senior Optometrist and low vision specialist in the Federal Medical Centre, Birninkudu, advised the drivers to comply with clinical advice given to them in order to maintain good vision at all times.

He said that the command would endeavour to conduct the exercise periodically.
