4 killed, many injured in Bauchi birthday clash

A birthday party in Lukshi area of Bauchi metropolis turned violent on Sunday leading to the death of no fewer than four people while many were injured and two houses razed.

While confirming the clash in a telephone interview, Bauchi State Police Command PPRO, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar disclosed that the clash was between two rival groups over a lady friend to one of the members of the group.

Kamal Abubakar added that: “The clash had no religious or ethnic undertone, it was purely a social misunderstanding between two groups. It happened around 12 midnight on Sunday and it has been brought under control .”

The Police Spokesman added that already a total of 75 people have been arrested for interrogation on the matter assuring that all those not involved will be set free while anyone found culpable will be prosecuted.

He also assured that security has been beefed up in the area in order to ensure that the crisis did not spread to other parts of the town and state calling on the people to remain calm and report any questionable character to the Police for prompt action.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness to the clash told our Correspondent that the clash was between two young men who are dating a lady and decided to use the birthday venue to settle their scores pointing out that immediately the lady saw what happened, she sneaked away from the party venue.

The eyewitness added that in the clash that ensued, two houses were razed down while people were killed though he could not ascertain the number of the casualties.

He, however, appealed to the Police to ensure that innocent people were not punished but released after interrogation.
