3800 civil servants to write promotional exams in Bauchi

A total of 3800 civil servants in Bauchi state are to participate in the 2021 promotion examination scheduled to be conducted on the 21 of December 2021 at various centres across the state.

The disclosure was made by the State Head of the Civil Service, Yahuza Adamu Haruna while declaring open, a two days sensitization training on the promotion exams held at the Multipurpose Indoor Sports Hall, Bauchi on Wednesday saying that the exercise is for staff of Primary Healthcare Under One Roof (PHCUOR).

The HoS said that the conduct of the sensitization workshop was a continued demonstration of the government’s commitment towards the upliftment of the state Civil service in the area of professionalism and capacity building.

Yahuza Adamu also said that “the essence of this workshop cannot be overemphasized because the main thrust of the examination policy, aside from aiming at paving way for promotion, it acquaints civil servants with regulatory, professional and general knowledge of the civil service and the society”.

He added that, “This contributes immensely in boosting capacity and reading culture as well as increase effective performance of participants for effective service delivery”.

He then called on the participants to appreciate the good gesture of the government both within the civil service and outside by remaining law-abiding, respecting constituted authorities, being punctual, bureaucratic, honest, trustworthy, avoiding the use of foul language and negative posts against the government on the social and other media.

In goodwill remarks, Chairman, Bauchi State Civil Service Commission, Abubakar Usman stated that “to participate in this examination process is a good opportunity for the participants to interact with your colleagues and examiners in a cordial environment. It is the hope and prayers of the Commission that you will pay attention to this serious exercise and make an impact by passing the examination”.

He urged all civil servants in the state to rally round the HoS to enable him to turn around the fortune of the Civil service saying, “we are aware of the efforts of the present administration in cleaning the salary system hitherto plagued by unsavoury practices”.

Chairman of the Consultants handling the exercise, Dugge Management Services Ltd, Gambo Magaji said that the exercise is aimed at ensuring that the participants are up to date in the performance of their duties as civil servants.

He said that they have a choice of either passing the exams and getting promoted or playing with them and remaining stagnant in one grade while those who are serious will go on climbing the ladder of progression in the service.

Gambo Magaji assured them that, “the examination questions are coming from the things you will be taught by the Resource Persons during the 2 days as well as your daily routine in the office. If you want to pass, you will definitely pass, also, if you choose to fail, you will fail”.

“Don’t noise or gossip around during the 2 days of the lectures, pay attention to whatever you will be taught here and I assure you that at the end of the day, you will not regret participating in the exercise. Bauchi is one of the few states in the country that give civil servants such opportunities to develop themselves while serving”, he stressed.

Also speaking, Special Adviser on Civil Service Matters to the Governor, Abdon Dalla Gin said that since its introduction, the promotion exam has strengthened the Civil service considering that the Civil servants are being kept abreast of new developments in the scheme.

Abdon Gin said that the scheme at the initial stage faced challenges and rejection by the Civil servants and organized labour, it has been accepted now and it is growing rapidly calling on the participants to take full advantage of it in order to get promoted and well equipped for effective service.

The Permanent Secretary, Establishment and ServiCom Matters Bureau in the office of the HoS, Barr Mohammed Sani Umar said that the sensitization exercise is very important because it concerns human capital development which is a very vital component of production and development.

He said that, “As we all know, the promotion examination has the main merit of keeping civil servants up to date with the regulatory books such as the Public Service Regulations (PSR) ; Financial and Stores Regulations as well as general knowledge. You will agree with me that these are germane for ensuring effective, efficient and productive public service”.
