35-year-old mother of three jailed 12 months for stealing N15,000 phone in Osun

A Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo, capital of Osun, on Monday sentenced a 35-year-old woman, identified as Nafisat Raji mother to 12 months imprisonment for stealing Tecno phone, worth N15,000.

The convict, a mother of three children was docked before Magistrate O. A Oloyade one count charge of stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun informed the court that the convict an indigene of Ede committed the offence on the 10th of March 2018 around 11.00 pm at Tinumola Estate in Osogbo, explaining that the convict entered into the shop of one Rofisat Bolaji and stole one Techno mobile phone estimated at N15,000.

He further explained that the convict, who is a divorcee was apprehended by the people around the area and was handed over to police after being subjected to thorough beating.

While tendering the statement of the convict and the stolen phone as an exhibit before the court, Fagboyinbo maintained that offence is contrary to and punishable under section 390 of the criminal code cap 34 volume 11.laws of Osun State 2003, recalling that the convict had once been charged to court for the same offence.

The convict, who had no legal representation pleaded guilty to the one count charge and admitted to the facts, but begged the court for pardon, lamenting that her last child is too small to be abandoned without care.

Delivering her judgment, Presiding Magistrate, Mrs A. A Oloyade convicted her on one count charge of stealing and sentenced her to 12 months imprisonment or pay an option of fine of N10,000, just as she ordered that the phone is returned to the complainant.
