No more than three hundred and forty-five students have benefited from the I.G Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation in Anambra State
The beneficiaries will have their education sponsored, from the basic level to the university level.
The empowerment programme that took place at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka attracted the Traditional ruler of Nibo, Igwe Michael Ngene, parents of the beneficiaries, and government functionaries, among others.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the I.G. Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation, which commenced in 2019, focuses on helping young and less privileged people in society, and between 2019 and 2023, several people have been mobilised to, among other things, become major trustees of the foundation.
Declaring the event open, the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-udeh, commended the initiative and asked the benefactor to extend the same gesture to the very poor and vulnerable ones in society, even as she advised the wealthy to emulate Ichie Aguowo.
In his address, the benefactor, Ozo Ichie Ignatius Aguowo, explained that the mission of the Foundation is to provide quality healthcare and educational services to the less privileged, stressing that their involvement cuts across health, academic and local community support, hospital donations, endowment to the less privileged, donations of funds and items, among others.
According to him, our core values depend largely on the belief that children and young people can attain empowerment through quality academic scholarship and health support.
“The beneficiaries are drawn from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in the country.
“He said, I am doing this to eradicate poverty through education. I am not doing it to attract public praise but for the sake of my happiness and the happiness of society at large.
“Petroleum engineering, medical, and Nursing Students are the major beneficiaries of the Foundation.
He appealed to the government at all levels to declare a state of emergency in the education sector, noting that the measure remains one of the major ways to curtail crime across the country.
Aguowo congratulated the beneficiaries and stressed that he holds girl-child education as a priority, promising to do more interventions.
On his part, the keynote speaker of the occasion with the theme “Education Ticket To A Better Future,” Hon. Frank Igbojindu, the CEO of Best Brain Contest, commended Ichie Aguowo for his exceptional commitment to the education of Nigeria’s students.
He praised Aguowo’s philanthropic gestures, which he stated were devoid of political interests.
“Igbojindu also described the benefactor as a rare gene in Nigeria, particularly in Anambra State.
“The act of offering comprehensive scholarships to the 345 students, with full tertiary education and healthcare benefits, is a testament to Ichie IG Aguowo’s dedication to humanitarian causes,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Chinwe expressed appreciation to their benefactor, describing the empowerment as a lifetime golden opportunity to further their academic pursuits and achieve life goals.
Miss Chinwe recalled that the effort of the foundation has made it possible for the less privileged people who dropped out of school as a result of financial constraints to go back through scholarships, assuring that they will not fail.
