34-year-old man seeks N21m for kidney transplant

34-year-old Nigerian man, Peter Aroke, who has been battling kidney failure for some months, has appealed to public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations for financial assistance to enable him undergo surgery.

The Kogi-born is currently struggling to raise N21m for a kidney transplant.

TRIBUNE ONLINE gathered that a medical report from Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, signed by Prof. Adebowale Adekoya, Director of Clinical Services and Training/ CMA C, obtained by our reporter, gave the clinical history as, “a known hypertensive patient diagnosed with CKD End Stage Renal Disease”, noting that “he (Peter Aroke) has been counselled to have renal transplant done”.

He is also expressing fear that he may need more than N20m since he will be doing the transplant in Nigeria.

One of the family members, Ezekiel Aroke, in an interview with TRIBUNE ONLINE on Wednesday, said they have been able to raise N450,000 so far.

“He had been experiencing high blood pressure, weakness, difficulty breathing properly, and a swollen leg. These symptoms persisted until he was taken to LASUTH in April 2023. He received three dialysis treatments and was then discharged. He visited the clinic on a few occasions, but the symptoms continued. On October 9th, he was taken back to LASUTH, where his PCV was checked and the result was 8%.”

“He had to undergo a blood transfusion (6 pints) before he could have the first dialysis.

“He was advised to undergo a kidney transplant and has been receiving dialysis treatment since then. At one point, his breathing became imbalanced and he had to be put on oxygen. He has already undergone 19 sessions of dialysis and now goes to the hospital twice a week for treatment since he has been discharged. We are currently looking for the necessary funds to cover the cost of the transplant,” Ezekiel Aroke disclosed.

Peter can be reached on his mobile number, 09116020469, while donations can be made to the designated account number, 3058582725 (Polaris bank); Account name – Aroke Ezekiel Omeiza.
