31-year-old man beaten to death in Plateau

A 31-year-old man, Benjamin Aruma Izang has been allegedly beaten to death by operatives of the Special Task Force Code named Operations Safe Haven at the Tina junction of Jos North local government area of Plateau State.

State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ubah Gabriel learnt that an argument ensued on Wednesday evening between Benjamin and one Blessing, who operates a provision shop in the vicinity over a 50 naira change after he purchased eggs from her.

An eyewitness said Blessing reported the incident to the outpost of the Operations Safe Haven in the area but rather than direct Blessing to the police station within the vicinity, the military men took it upon themselves to investigate the matter.

According to an eye witness, they invited Benjamin to their outpost station,  but he refused to honour the invitation and men of the Operations Safe Haven stormed his house and dragged him to their station where he was thoroughly beaten.

It was gathered that he was later released and struggled to get home where he complained of severe body pain and rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment where he gave up the ghost at about 8:00 pm.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that Blessing is on the run as he could not be reached after the incident.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that his body has been deposited with the police for further investigation. But when contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ubah Gabriel declared thus: “I am presently lying in the hospital receiving treatment, I don’t know anything about the incident while efforts to get authority of the Operations Safe Haven to comment on the incident proved abortive.
