30 Salem University graduates called to bar — VC

The Vice Chancellor of Salem University Lokoja, Professor Alewo Johnson-Akubo said 30 graduates of the University have been called to Bar by the Body of Benchers (BOB) in Nigeria.

The VC, who made the disclosure in Lokoja, described the development as “cheering” and “encouraging news” to the institution.

Johnson-Akubo said that the new lawyers were among the first set of law students who graduated from the College of Law of the university.

The VC, while congratulating the ‘Change Agents” said, “It’s an eloquent testimony of the relentless pursuit of the vision of ‘Raising Global Leaders’ by the visioner and founder, Archbishop (Dr) Sam Amaga.”

He, however, warned the new lawyers and solicitors against engaging in sharp practices that are capable of jeopardising their images and that of the institution.

Johnson-Akubo charged them to be good ambassadors of the university by proving their worth as credible lawyers and solicitors.

He noted that for them to have successfully passed through the Nigerian Law School after their graduation and got called to the bar was indeed a feat worth celebrating.

“We, as an institution and their Alma Mata, are so happy with the progress they are making in their legal career.

“As it stands today, they are full-fledged lawyers and solicitors, who can be advocating for the millions of people and organizations needing their services in and outside the country.

“It’s our hope that they will do their best to serve the nation well as good ambassadors of Salem University, ” he said.

According to him, there was the need for caution against greed and money temptation so as not to put themselves in problems.

The VC added: “I believe they are men and women of proven character and learning. They are fit and proper persons called and admitted into the Nigerian Bar.”
