3 years after, Toyin, Johnson yet to sign divorce papers

The last may not have been heard of the divorce rocking two of Nigeria’s popular actors, Adeniyi Johnson and his estranged wife, Toyin Abraham as a new twist to their failed marriage saga emerged during the week.

It has been three years since they parted ways blaming their separation on unfaithfulness.

There were efforts to reconcile them by those who matter, but information gathered by R revealed that both parties had made up their minds to put an end to their affairs.

Johnson, who is now engaged to another actress in the Yoruba movie industry alleged that his former wife, Toyin was frustrating the divorce moves, saying that her continued insistence not to sign necessary papers was delaying the divorce proceedings.

Toyin had countered his claim through his publicist, Big Sam, scolding the lanky actor for sharing details of their divorce on social media platforms.

Johnson in a series of posts on his Instagram story alleged that he and Toyin were to sign their divorce papers on November 1, claiming that Toyin failed to show up on the said day as the case, according to him, was postponed till January 10.

He claimed that Toyin’s manager, Sam, had called him to inform him of their decision to discontinue the case in Sagamu, Ogun State, where it was being heard and restart it in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to Johnson, who disclosed that he had bore all the faults in the crashed marriage in order to keep the matter quiet, wondered why Toyin would not let him go even after three years of separation.

“I am surprised that there was no official letter from your lawyer to the new development. The only person that called me was your manager. I had taken your accusations in good stride and moved on but your delaying tactics is becoming tiring. I see that my quietness is being taken for granted and making people assumed that I am the bad egg,” he said.

While reacting to Johnson’s allegations, livid Toyin in a statement released by her management, knocked Johnson for bringing the matter to the social media, saying it was childish of him to be seeking unnecessary attention.

He told Johnson that if he desperately wanted a divorce, he should file for one, not waiting her (Toyin) to file one, adding that he should desist from using past relationship to generate talkability.

“A simple call to your lawyer would tell you that what lawyer Bosun called you for is the beginning of trial (court proceedings) not to come and sign divorce papers. Divorce doesn’t work like that. Three, if you desperately want a divorce, you should have filed one not Toyin; perhaps the over N1 million cost deterred you.”

The statement added that Toyin chose to bear the cost, paid her lawyer the fee and had taken the case to a considerable point. It claimed that he had shown more commitment to the divorce proceedings than Johnson.
