3 men in court over alleged theft of cables worth N450,000

SHERIFF Lawal, 23, and two other accused; Abdulraham Sulaimon, 20, and Vincent Ejiofor,48, on Monday appeared in an Ota Magistrates ‘ Court in Ogun for alleged theft of cable wires worth N450,000.

The three accused of no fixed address are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing to which they pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Abdulkareem Mustapha, the accused committed the offences from Dec 15, 2018, to Dec 24, 2018, at Konifewa area, Illogbo, Ota.

Mustapha said that they stole six 4mm cables and eight disco lights belonging to the complainant, Mr Tolulope Adebayo.

“The accused were caught by the vigilante group, who handed them over to the police, “he said.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Mathew Akinyemi, granted the accused bail in the sum N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Akinyemi said the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

He adjourned until Feb 4 for mention.
