3 dead in Ogun cult clash

Three people, including a Ghanaian, have been killed in a fresh resumption of hostility between two cult groups in Sango area of Ogun State.

Two persons, Joe alias Baby Ghana and Ahmed, were early Tuesday axed to death around Ketere and Iyana Araromi by suspected members of Aiye Confraternity. A member of Aiye cult group had been killed four days earlier.

It was gathered that the early Tuesday killing was a reprisal attack by the Aiye members whose colleague, simply identified as Para, was murdered by suspected Eiye members few days before the latest killings.

The Tuesday incident was reported as the peak of cult war around Sango area in the last four days during which members of the two groups were on rampage, seizing the opportunity to rob innocent people.

The killers of Joe and Ahmed reportedly broke their heads with axe forcing their brain out of their skulls.

A resident of Araromi, who simply identified himself as Muyideen, narrated that “Joe and some other guys had on Monday attended an end of the year carnival at San Siro in Ota.

“When they got to Araromi junction, Baby Ghana told others that he wanted to smoke cigarette and he stopped to buy from a woman at the junction.

“It was while he was buying the cigarette that some guys in black surrounded him and broke his head with their axes. They also robbed the trader,” the resident said.

Before Joe was killed, the same gang was said to have invaded Ketere  area which is about 50 metres away from the scene where Ahmed  was also axed to death.

It was gathered that Ahmed had woken up early to smoke Indian hemp and was looking for where to get it when he was attacked.

A resident who pleaded anonymity while speaking with Metro, said “for long, there has been a serious war between Eiye and Aiye members.” But in the past few months, there had been relative peace until the killing of an Aiye member, Para, by Eiye members a few days ago.

“Today’s killing is a reprisal attack by the Aiye members. The two people (Joe and Ahmed) were Eiye members. There has been tension since the last three days.”

A police source at Sango police station, who spoke with Metro on the incident, said “it is true and we have recovered the latest two corpses which have been deposited in the mortuary.”

When contacted, the police image maker in the state, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the death of the two suspected cult members by members of a rival cult group on Tuesday, saying that efforts were on to apprehend those behind the killings.
