28 bag First Class as Trinity University holds 3rd convocation ceremony

Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, will, on Friday, 22nd March, graduate a new set of students (122 in total) across various disciplines, of whom 28 (representing 22.95%) achieved First Class honours.

The university will also matriculate a new cohort of students, totalling 554, across disciplines under the 2024/2025 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Clement Kolawole, stated this at a pre-convocation press conference held on campus on Monday.

According to him, this year’s convocation is particularly special, as the university will be graduating its first set of Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science students.

He noted that the university was established in 2019 with nine pioneering students and has so far graduated 194 students across various disciplines. The student population has also grown to approximately 2,000.

Providing further statistics on the graduands, Kolawole, a professor of language education, reading, and curriculum development, stated that among those who obtained First Class, 16 were female (representing 57.14%) and 12 were male (representing 42.85%). In addition, 65 students attained Second Class Upper Division, 25 obtained Second Class Lower Division, and three graduated with Third Class.

He highlighted that Farouq Adedolapo Animashaun would be graduating as the overall best student. A Computer Science major, he achieved a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.95.

Regarding other activities scheduled for the convocation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the Chairman/CEO of Coscharis Group of Companies, Dr Cosmas Maduka, would deliver the convocation lecture on Wednesday, titled “Success is Not a Degree.” The lecture will be chaired by a member of the governing council of the university, Dr Olufemi Oyinsan.

He further mentioned that the matriculation ceremony would take place on Thursday, with the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Professor Adenike Oladiji, delivering a matriculation lecture titled “The Central Place of University Education in Personal and National Development.”

“So, we will have the awarding of prizes and degrees to our graduating students on Friday, with the university’s Chancellor and renowned industrialist, Dr Samuel Adedoyin of Doyin Investments, presiding. Additionally, an honorary doctoral degree in Business Administration and Management will be conferred on Sir Dipo Ajayi, President of the Architect Registration Council of Nigeria, during the event,” the Vice-Chancellor added.

Kolawole affirmed that all the graduating students had been well trained.

In his remarks at the event, the Chairman of the governing council of the university, Pastor Samuel Olatunji, expressed gratitude to God for the university’s steady growth. He also thanked the promoter, management team, and other members of the university community for their dedication to its development.

He stated that the university had a clear vision and mission from the outset: to produce graduates for the global market and to address societal challenges through cutting-edge research and community service.

He assured that the university would remain steadfast in its commitment to this vision.
