Twenty six suspected criminals, including cult members, armed robbers were on Wednesday in Lagos paraded before newsmen by the state commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni.
The police boss also told newsmen that the suspects also included members of the public, who indulged in jungle justice and kidnappers.
An armed robber suspect, simply identified as Fighter died in a gun duel with policemen from Alagabdo area of the state, while another member of his gang was arrested.
CP Owoseni also said that the suspects were arrested in different operations at different locations in the state in the last two weeks.
The police boss said that one of the arrested suspect was arrested, while trying to break into a house in the Jakande area of Lekki by residents, who handed him over to the police, who arrived at the scene.
“The police team went to the scene and one Felix Balogun who had been arrested by members of the public was handed over to the police.
CP Owoseni, who gave the name of the suspect as Felix Balogun said “”Investigation however revealed that the suspect is a member of Eye cult group. He confessed to the crime and also led the police to their hideout where initiation was about to take place and 13 suspects were arrested.”
The Lagos police commissioner also added that “A cutlass, two life cartridges and assorted charms were recovered from the suspects.”
The CP also said that a hotel driver, who drove his company’s vehicle to Onitsha, Anambra State was also arrested by the police and their vehicle recovered.
“This is to reiterate the importance of profiling domestic workers as information provided by the driver assisted in tracking him down.” The police boss said.
CP Owoseni said that a Good Samaritan, who provided information to the police, prevented a four- year-old girl from being killed by a suspected kidnapper, who was later arrested.
The Lagos police boss said “The Good Samaritan raised alarm and policemen attached to Denton Police Station rushed to the scene where the man was about to slaughter the girl with a knife.”
He added that “The suspect slightly injured the Good Samaritan while trying to recover the knife from him but he was eventually arrested and the girl had been handed over to her mother who had lost sight of her at White Sand Market, Ebute-Metta.”
