250 indigents benefit free eye care services in Kwara community

No fewer than 250 beneficiaries will enjoy free eye care services organized by indigenes of Igbomina in Kwara State, under the aegis of the Igbomina Youth Assembly to mark 10 year anniversary of the group.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Monday as part of activities to mark the anniversary, the president of the group, Adewumi Adekunle James, said that the group discovered that eye problems were the commonest challenge among residents of Igbomina land in Kwara State.

James, who said that a needs assessment activity was earlier carried out in the area to know prevalent challenges of the rural people of Igbomina land, added that findings revealed that eye problem was common among aged and other affected individuals.

He said that such diseases as cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration were identified, adding that beneficiaries would be presented with drugs or eyeglasses as the case may require during the one week programme.

The Youth leader, who said that the treatment would take place in the palace of Olupo of Ajase Ipo in the Irepodun local government area, added that the Igbomina Community Needs Assessment project would be launched on Saturday.

The group, described as a non-political and non-religious association, aimed to bridge the development gap among various Igbomina groups and promote social and cultural advancement/interest of Igbomina youth.

The youth leader also said that the group had championed activities through various empowerment programmes such as seminars, donations to selected schools, seeking federal and state employment for members, processing and securing admission for junior ones in tertiary institutions, among other development activities.

The group called on concerned authorities to address youth restiveness in the area by being responsive to their needs in order to make life more meaningful.
