24-year-old construction worker found dead under Ikoyi collapsed building

The last of the five construction worker trapped under the rubbles of the 2-storey building that collapsed at Glover Court in Ikoyi on Friday, identified as Yomi, has been recovered dead.

According to details made available to newsmen in the early hours of Saturday by the Spokesman of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, the Supervising Engineer handling the construction project absconded after learning of the building collapse on Friday.

“Collapsed building at Glover Court in Ikoyi is currently at ground zero. The last construction worker Yomi was recovered dead.

“The Supervising engineer, after learning of the building collapse, refused to pick calls made to his mobile phones, and has absconded.

“A total of four out of the five trapped construction workers in the collapsed two-storey building were rescued on Friday while Yomi, the last construction worker trapped under the rubble was found dead in the early hours of Saturday,” the LASEMA Spokesman stated.

It would be recalled that in quick reaction to the incident, LASEMA the Agency saddled with emergency response in Lagos, activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans in an ongoing operation to excavate the site in order to save the remaining trapped victim from the building that collapsed around 4 pm on Friday.

Lagosians within the vicinity of the incident were enjoined to stay calm and allow emergency responders to do their job.
