24 states participate in Arabic board exams in 2019 ― Registrar

No fewer than 24 states participated in this year’s National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAISS ) examinations held in seven centres across the country.

This was disclosed by the Registrar of the board, Professor Muhammad Shafiu Abdullahi while speaking with newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday.

Abdullahi listed the centres as Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Niger, Kwara, Oyo and Enugu, saying the performance of the students in both the Arabic exams and Tahfeez was encouraging.

While alluding that the senior Arabic and Islamic studies exams (SAISSC) is equivalent to SSCE and NECO, said many students who did well were given admission to pursue other courses like engineering and medicine.

The professor of Arabic remarked that states are gradually keying up to ensure that their students participate in the board examinations.

He said, for instance, this year (2019), 24states including Abuja participated in the board’s examinations across the country, saying this was an improvement from what was obtainable last year.

According to him, the total number of 36,000 sat for the exams and out of which 28,000 passed.

“This is not to say that the rest did not pass. They failed in only two or three subjects,” he said.
