24-hour curfew imposed in Kaduna

Following the outbreak of violence in some parts of Kaduna metropolis and its environs, a 24-hour curfew has been imposed in the state capital.

This was even as soldiers and police have taken over control of Kawo, Hayin Bakin, Barnawa, Narayi, Kamazo, Magajin Garin all in the state capital.

As at the time of filing this report, fierce looking soldiers and police were seen in the troubled areas trying to maintain law and order.

A resident of Bakin ruwa who pleaded for anonymity remarked that she heard gunshots in her area, saying, ‘ I wanted to go to Tudun wada but the soldiers asked me to turn back and go home.

Also, gunshots were fired by the soldiers, apparently to disperse the youths who had barricaded most parts of the metropolis.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to governor El-rufai on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, on Sunday disclosed that the curfew is with immediate effect.

According to him, the state government took the decision as a result of security breaches in some parts of the state capital which some disgruntled elements wanted to capitalise to cause violence.

While calling on the residents to obey the directives, the statement maintained that the government was on top of the situation.

Also, findings gathered that residents of Sabo, Kamazo, Narayi, Bakin ruwa, Kawo, Magajin Gari, Ahmad Bello way, closed their houses in fear when some youths in these areas went berserk and started attacking innocent people and vandalising their properties.

A resident of Barnawa, Abraham Peters, remarked that he was going to Narayi High cost when he saw some youths holding offensive weapons, barricaded the road and asking people to turn back.

‘I was trying to find out what was amiss but nobody could tell me what the problem was, so I had to run for safety.

However, a resident of Sabo who pleaded for anonymity remarked that the recent pandemonium in the state capital was a spill over of the Kasuwar magani communal clash that led to the death of over 50 people.
