The police in Lagos State have arrested a 23-year-old man named Gbolahan Adebayo for the alleged murder of his 25-year-old girlfriend.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect beat the woman to death in their apartment in the Ijedodo area of the state during the previous weekend.
The Public Relations Officer of the state command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune.
He stated that police detectives from the Isheri Oshun Police Station apprehended Adebayo.
According to the police spokesperson, “On February 23, 2025, at about 09:00 hours, a neighbour reported to the Isheri Oshun Police Station that on February 21, 2025, at around 20:00 hours, he witnessed Gbolahan Adebayo beating his girlfriend in his home in Ijedodo for reasons yet to be determined.”
“However, at about 0700 hours of the following day, the said Gbolahan reportedly screamed for help and on getting to his apartment, the said girlfriend was met lying unconscious on the bed with visible marks of violence, found on her body.
She was immediately taken to hospital in Ijegun where she was confirmed dead by the doctors on duty.”
“Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the scene. The hospital was also visited where the corpse was inspected and photographed.
The corpse was evacuated and deposited at IDH Morgue, Yaba for autopsy,” police revealed.
According to him, “the suspect was promptly arrested and investigation progressed on the incident.”
