2,200 Corps members deployed to Benue

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has deployed a total of 2,200 Corps Members from Batch C Stream 11 to Benue State on Friday, where they took an oath.

They new Corps members were encouraged to take the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program seriously.

During the official opening and swearing-in ceremony of the Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area, the state governor, Hyacinth Alia, addressed the corps members, stating that the scheme is designed to tackle post-NYSC unemployment challenges.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Youths, Sports, and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, Governor Alia emphasized, “The future is in your hands. Seize this opportunity to learn, grow, and make an impact during and after your service year.”

Governor Alia reiterated his administration’s commitment to the development and success of the NYSC scheme in the state.

He assured the Corps Members of Benue’s warm hospitality and urged them to see the state as their home throughout their service year.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC in Benue, Mrs. Garba Veronica, praised the state government for its consistent payment of monthly allowances—₦15,000 for Corps Members and ₦100,000 for Corps Doctors—describing it as a significant source of motivation.

She also acknowledged the Governor’s prompt action in addressing erosion challenges at the camp but pointed out that the ongoing work had been abandoned by contractors. She called for immediate measures to mobilize the contractors back to the project site.

Mrs. Garba further encouraged the Corps Members to foster unity and integration among themselves by building healthy relationships across ethnic and religious divides.

She emphasised the importance of focusing on the NYSC SAED programme rather than engaging in frivolous activities online, stating, “Direct your energy towards self-development and skills acquisition. It will prepare you for a brighter future after your service year.”
