21st-century health scientists development: Bowen introduces new training procedure ― VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Bowen University, Iwo, Professor Joshua Ogunwole has said that following the university’s efforts in repositioning the delivery mode towards the 21st Century skills; the MB, BS programme would now have its own Mobile Application that would contain lecture notes, video lectures, video practical, discussions, quizzes and so on.

Professor Ogunwole made the declaration at the 4th induction ceremony of the university’s medical graduating students, held on Saturday.

According to him, every technical practical will be professionally videoed/filmed for future accessibility by the students on their smartphones through the mobile application, saying that, by the middle of July 2019, the process will commence with Physiology practical, using the modern, all-in-one equipment called Power Lab with full accessories.

He added that information technology appreciation and applications would be introduced to the clinical training, and other innovative approaches would be employed along with the repositioning agenda of the university.

While Professor Ogunwole enjoined the new inductees of the Ivory Tower never to lose their moral compass in the course of discharging their duties in the medical line.

He said: “Be prepared to be accountable for everything you do; be prepared to welcome your patients’ participation in decisions about their care; be prepared to devote your professional energies not only to your patients’ needs but also to the unmet health needs of our society as a whole; be prepared to husband society’s limited resources. So never stop learning; never stop asking questions; and never forget that medicine is an art, as well as a science,” he said, adding that facilities upgrading is ongoing on the campus to ensure and sustain a high-performance culture to birth a world-class university.

Speaking in the same vein, the Provost, College of Health Sciences of the institution, Professor Ayodele Soladoye, appealed to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and other allied bodies in the country to increase the admission quota of the university from 50 to 75. According to him, the institution has increased its carrying capacity and all the necessary teaching and research aids to admit more students.
