2027: ‘Why governorship seat should shift to Kwara North’

Published by

A lecturer in the Department of Islamic Studies at Al-Hikma University, Ilorin, Dr Sanusi Lafiagi, has urged the people of Kwara Central and Kwara South senatorial districts to support Kwara North in producing the next governor in 2027.

Lafiagi made the appeal while delivering a lecture titled Equity, Fairness, and Justice: The Islamic Perspective at a Ramadan lecture and iftar event organised by the Friends of SYD in Ilorin.

He emphasised that Islam upholds justice and fairness in all dealings, stating that adherence to these principles is crucial for societal harmony and divine reward.

“I’m a Kwara Northerner; a region that has not produced a governor in 26 years. By 2027, when the current governor leaves office, Kwara Central would have been in power for 20 years, while Kwara South held power for 8 years. In the spirit of equity, fairness, and justice, the next governor should come from Kwara North. This is an appeal to our brothers from the other regions. This state belongs to all of us, and we will all contribute to its development,” he stated.

Lafiagi also led special prayers for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and his administration, asking for divine guidance and the strength to build on the achievements recorded so far.

The event was attended by prominent admirers of the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Engineer Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, including Deputy Speaker Hon Ojo Oyebode, House Leader Hon Abdulkadir Magaji, Deputy House Leader Hon Medinat AbdulRaheem, and other members of the Assembly.

Friends of SYD is a group of friends, admirers, volunteers, and well-wishers of Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, dedicated to promoting his leadership qualities and contributions.

There have been growing calls from various stakeholders across the state advocating for a power shift to Kwara North in 2027.
