2027: Nigerians urged to speak up against ‘sit tight’ syndrome

The People Republican Party (PRP) Vanguard and Nigeria Patriotic Front Movement (NPFM) have called on Nigerians to voice their opposition to the “Tazarce (sit tight) syndrome” that is threatening democracy in the country.

This syndrome refers to the tendency of some politicians to cling to power beyond their constitutional term limits.

According to the groups, this syndrome has led to extreme poverty, bad governance, and human rights violations in Nigeria.

They cited alarming poverty figures, stating that the actual number of people living in poverty could be much higher than the official figure of 134 million.

The PRP and NPFM emphasized that Nigerians have the right to protest against bad governance and policies, as guaranteed by the Constitution. They vowed to continue promoting the rights of Nigerians to freely and peacefully protest, despite the regime’s attempts to silence critics through harassment, intimidation, and fabricated charges.

The groups urged Nigerians not to be cowed by the regime’s tactics and to continue speaking out against government corruption, police brutality, and other forms of injustice.

They emphasised that Nigeria is not a police state and that citizens have a duty to care for their communities and demand better governance.
