2027: Kwara South people urged to promote unity, shun personal agenda

Members of a socio-political association in Kwara South district of Kwara state, under the aegis of the Ibolo/Igbomina/Ekiti Development Union (IIEDU), have appealed to people and traditional institutions in the area to make unity and development of the district their priority.

In a statement by the association signed by its president, Professor Akinwumi Isaac, on Wednesday, the group urged both the indigenes and traditional rulers of Kwara South district to be wary of some political elements with personal agenda ahead of 2027 general elections.

The IIEDU described a recent political agitation, tagged, Kwara South for Kwara North, as hypocritical.

The group stated “We call on sons and daughters of Kwara South, home and abroad, to disregard the agitation and we urge all our traditional rulers to desist from politics. Traditional rulers belong to everybody and not to some people. They should make unity and development of Kwara South as their priority. When the time comes, the Almighty God will choose the right person that will lead Kwara state”.

The IIEDU also said that the people behind the political agitation needed wider consultation, rather than making wrong moves at the wrong time.

“The Kwara South unity and development should be the priority of any group and all traditional rulers in Kwara South.

“The much needed unity of Kwara Southerners should be foundation and catalyst to our socio-economic development of this vibrant zone.

“We all know that where there is no peace and unity, there will be no development and progress. Why not equity and fairness in 2019 and 2023?

“The so called summit held on Friday, December 27, 2024 in Ajase Ipo is not a summit, but just a political programme organized by certain group of people for an individual that sponsored them. They are not speaking for the zone. They lack the capacity and credibility to speak for Kwara South. We have strong belief in our respected traditional rulers. As our fathers, they should be conscious of their roles and not allow themselves to be used against the general interest of our people”.
