The National Coalition, led by former Vice President and People’s Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has denied media reports that it has settled on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and a key member of the coalition, Malam Salihu Mohammed Lukman, made the clarification in a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.
Lukman, who also denied having been appointed to head the secretariat of the coalition, maintained that once negotiations are concluded, a formal announcement will be made by the coalition leaders regarding the political party to be adopted.
The statement reads: “My attention has been drawn to a Vanguard Newspaper publication claiming that I have been appointed to head the secretariat of the coalition. The public should disregard the story as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken.
“Equally false is the report that the coalition adopted the ADC at its meeting on Tuesday, 20 May 2025.
“The truth is that negotiations among all the coalition leaders are progressing very well, and final decisions about the political platform for the 2027 election will be taken soon.
“Unfortunately, there appear to be some mischief-makers promoting and planting stories in the media with the clear aim of sowing seeds of discord among coalition leaders.
“The public and the media should please disregard all these mischievous stories.”
