2026: Ekiti health workers endorse Oyebanji for second term

The Inter-Allied Unions’ Forum of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, has endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term in office.

The Forum comprises the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), and the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI).

Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti during the solidarity gathering, the Forum Chairman, Dr. Famous Adeyemi, praised the Governor for his transformative leadership, stating that it has positively impacted the hospital and the health sector in the state.

He highlighted several interventions, including an increase in monthly subvention, the provision of an Independent Power Project (IPP), renovation of the main theatre, upgrade of medical wards, construction of a modernised renal dialysis centre, timely payment of hazard allowances, and full gross salary payments in 2024.

Others include the payment of the 2019 minimum wage, implementation of the 2023 CONHESS/COMMESS review, and approval for the facility upgrade of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), among others.

According to him, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for your remarkable contributions to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti—for prioritising the welfare of staff members, and especially for recently providing additional subvention to commence implementation of the 2024 Minimum Wage.

“Your Excellency, your transformative leadership since assuming office has positively impacted our hospital and, more broadly, the health sector in the state in unprecedented ways.

“There has been improvement in health indices across the state compared to the period before your administration, which is a clear testament to your outstanding performance in healthcare.

“These include the recent subvention increase for the 2024 Minimum Wage implementation, the Independent Power Project (IPP), renovation of the main theatre, upgrade of medical wards, construction of a modernised renal dialysis centre, timely payment of hazard allowances, and increased 2024 subvention to alleviate financial burdens, among others.”

On his part, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of EKSUTH, Tony Arigbede, described the governor’s achievements within two years as remarkable, reaffirming the union’s unwavering solidarity with his administration.

“Your Excellency, these achievements within just two years are indeed remarkable, and we deeply appreciate your dedication. Truly, in EKSUTH, you are a promise keeper, and our solidarity with your administration remains unwavering.

“We are indeed convinced that with your continued leadership, all other outstanding challenges will be resolved seamlessly.”

The Chairperson of MHWUN, EKSUTH Chapter, Kumuyi Oluwatimilehin, also commended the governor’s giant strides in the health sector, stating that his interventions have given health workers confidence in their future and renewed dedication to duty.
