The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board (MPWB) has said it is set to commence the distribution of travelling materials to its intending pilgrims for the forthcoming second phase of the education and orientation exercise scheduled to take place at the permanent hajj camp, Bassan Jiwa, close to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd February 2025.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Board, Muhammad Lawal Aliyu, disclosed that the board has secured the materials to enable the intending pilgrims to prepare on time for the spiritual journey.
According to the spokesperson, items to be distributed during the exercise include uniforms, literature, and audio materials to engage the intending pilgrims to continue with the learning of Hajj rites during the fasting of the Islamic month of Ramadan.
The statement added that activities for the intending pilgrims would be suspended during the fasting period to enable them to have sufficient time to participate in Ramadan activities in their respective places and get hold of the benefit of the month.
He said the full preparations for the hajj would resume after the fasting to actualise the success of the operation and ensure that intending pilgrims are well prepared for the spiritual journey to the holy land of Saudi Arabia.
The statement explained that the Board is determined to ensure that intending pilgrims get the rudiments of performing hajj in order to have value for their hard-earned money paid to perform the religious obligation.
He disclosed that, as usual, the second phase of the orientation exercise this weekend would be conducted in seven languages by Islamic scholars due to the peculiar nature of the FCT, scheduled to take place from 8 o’clock in the morning each day.
He added that the orientation exercises, which are being conducted in phases, would enable the intending pilgrims to get proper enlightenment on the hajj rites as well as guidelines and new policies introduced for this year’s hajj by the Saudi authorities and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
According to the spokesperson, “intending pilgrims who are yet to return their completed application forms or submit their international passport should do so to enable the Board to fast-track the process of obtaining their travel documents in good time before the commencement of airlift to Saudi Arabia.”
