2024 UTME: We don’t decide cut-off marks alone — JAMB

Published by

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that it does not unilaterally set the cut-off marks for admissions into higher institutions.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Thursday, July 18, 2024, JAMB emphasised, “JAMB does not solely determine the UTME/DE Score decision for the 2024 Admission year.

The ‘minimum admissible score’ is decided by the Policy Meeting, a joint decision made by stakeholders under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Education.”

This clarification follows widespread reports that JAMB had set 140 as the cut-off mark for university admissions and 100 as the minimum cut-off for polytechnics and colleges of education.

The statement attributed to JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, was made during the 2024 Policy Meeting of the Board held in Abuja.

The meeting included the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, as well as vice-chancellors, rectors, registrars of higher institutions, and other stakeholders.
