2024: Top 10 African countries with largest active Military manpower

In the latest Global Fire Power Index for 2024, Nigeria has secured the third spot among African nations with the largest active military personnel, which indicates its exceptional military capacity in the region.

This ranking is based on an extensive evaluation of over 60 factors, including military unit quantities, financial resources, logistics, and geographic considerations.

According to the Global Fire Power Index 2024, Egypt leads the list with a formidable 440,000 active military personnel, which confirms its dominant position in African military strength.

Algeria follows in second place, boasting 325,000 troops, while Nigeria holds a strong third place with 230,000 active military members.

Morocco, known for its advanced military technology, ranks fourth with 195,800 personnel.

South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) round out the top six.

South Sudan is fifth with 185,000 active personnel, and DR Congo comes in sixth with 166,580.

Ethiopia, with 162,000 active military members, is seventh, while Eritrea holds the eighth position with 120,000.

Angola and Sudan complete the top ten, with 107,000 and 92,000 active personnel, respectively.
