2024 Hajj: NAHCON inaugurates committee on tour operators

Not leaving any stone unturned for successful operations, the Acting Chairman/CEO, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, inaugurated an 11-man committee on Monday for the pre-qualification of applicant tour companies for the 2024 Hajj licence.

Speaking during the inauguration, held in the board room of the Hajj House in Abuja, Arabi urged the committee members to live above board and be guided by the principles of transparency, honesty, fairness, and the fear of Almighty God in the discharge of the assignment.

He asserted that the conduct of the members would go a long way in enhancing the image and integrity of the Hajj body.

According to the NAHCON boss, “This assignment is very crucial and a litmus test of your integrity and the Commission. If you get it right, it will be a sign that we are ready for business and ready to move forward.

“Therefore, I enjoined you to be strong, bold, and firm so that the outcome of your assignment will not be questioned or disputed.

“At the same time, you will make yourself and the Commission very proud. So don’t let your personal desires and interests becloud your sense of judgement in carrying out the tasks.”

The terms of the reference committee, which has 10 days to submit its report, include: screening all applications vis-à-vis the requirements in the advertisement; identifying lead companies for the groups; devising the best way to distribute the licenced companies among the ten groups; and proposing the sharing of Hajj slots.

Responding, the leader of the committee, Malam Muhammad Ahmad Shira, thanked the acting chairman for giving them the opportunity to serve and pledged to discharge the duties diligently and with the utmost honesty and fairness.

“We will try to do our best, and we will not disappoint you,” Malam Shira, who doubles as the Head of NAHCON Tour Operator Division, said.
